So, you want to learn how to use a vape pen?
Well, few would be surprised: there are over nine million and counting adults in the United States who already vape. This past January, the state of Colorado alone sold over $5 million in vape pens.
Although vape pens have only been in the US for a little over a decade, their popularity does not seem to be going anywhere.
If you want to use one, you will first have to go through a few steps.
How to Use a Vape Pen Step One: Buy the Right One
There are so many different types of vape pens. And you will not know how to use a vape pen if you are trying to get it to do the wrong thing with the wrong parts.
So let’s go over some basics:
1. Cartridge Vapes:
A very common choice. These come in an array of prices and are made from all sorts of materials.
But usually, you will find most often with prefilled cartridges made of glass or plastic. Some companies allow you to buy the cartridges and fill them yourself.
2. Oil Vapes/Concentrated Vapes:
Concentrated pens take your wax and turn it into oil (hence the name going either way).
These pens can tend to be a little bit pricier, but due to their quality can definitely be worth it.
It is suggested before buying one of these, you watch a YouTube video on how to use this type of vape pen, or perhaps, ask a friend if you can watch them use theirs.
Because these ones need to be heated to a certain temperature and there are more than the typical amount of steps: it is best to err on the side of caution.Due to the price of both what goes in and what comes out, you wouldn’t want to waste your money on trial and error.
3. Herb Vapes:
It is probably assumed from their name, but let’s just go ahead and still clarify that these vaporizers are most commonly used for dry herbal products.
These can often be some of the easiest ones to use because often you just have to fill up the top and dump them out as you go. But this how to use your vape pen ease is a double-edged sword, because they can often be the hardest to clean.
These ones vary in price, and they can be anywhere from moderately priced to very expensive.
4. 3-in-1 Vapes:
When you are ready to go all pro, and you know how to use a vape pen so well that you will be entering competitions: this will be the pen for you.
As it says in the name, it is for all three: oil, wax, and dry products. These babies are not cheap, but you can get some for as little as $150.
How to Use Your Vape Pen Step Two: Dive Right In (to Reading)
I know reading the manual to anything doesn’t sound like a lot of fun, but it can be such a major asset later on when you’re still adjusting yourself on how to use your vape pen, and it is flashing a color you have never seen before.
It isn’t Russian Literature or SAT Prep: you do not have to read the whole booklet word for word.
But the more prepared you are going into the situation, the better off you will be playing with your new toy in the long run (pinky promise).
Make Sure You Have All Your Parts and Do a Practice Run
This may sound like a silly tip, but I once got a Pax in the mail with no top.
Make sure that you have all of your parts to your new vaporizer, which is usually:
- Lithium-ion rechargeable battery
- Refillable tank.
- Mouthpiece.
- USB charger with wall adapter
Charge it, and you will be good to go! If you want to try and use it without any liquid or matter in it before really using it, that is completely ok!
Sometimes, it is nice to know how hard things will hit and how much smoke will (theoretically) come out when you are smoking out of the mouthpiece. But again, this is completely up to you. If you feel like you know enough about how to use a vape pen, you can just skip to the next part.
Add Some Flavor
Screw on one of those prefilled cartridges with ease or load up the tank with some flavor.
Whatever your preference, it is totally up to you.
Just make sure to be careful either way. Both those glass bottles and prefilled containers and can be a lot more slippery than expected, so just use caution.
Start Puffing Away, Caterpillar
You are now more than ready and know how to use a vape pen.
Make sure that when you first start taking puffs of it, you take smaller ones. Many people try to smoke it like a cigar or a cigarette, and that is not at all what is suggested.
Because they are different flavors, and because there are often other moving parts that can make you feel different from tobacco, it is best to start slow and work your way up.
You would rather start with a little and find out you can handle more, as opposed to starting with too much and finding out that that is way too much for you to handle.
Respect Your Stuff
No one likes to be mothered, but it is important for you to keep all of your vaporizing supplies nice and clean. Many stores that sell vaporizing supplies sell the cleaning supplies that go with them, so do not forget to take care of your things.
In With The “In Crowd”
Vaporizing is a cool little piece of technology, and it looks like it is here to stay.
If you are going to become one of the millions who use it, remember that it is an easy thing to do and learn. There are very few tools and even fewer rules. Buy the stuff you want, read up on it, use it, and take care of it.
If you do these few things, you will be on the road to vaporizing success. Want to learn more about vaping and vape accessories? Check out our blog.
How to Use a Vape Pen: A Step-By-Step Guide
With over 9 million adults who vape in the United States alone, it’s no wonder why you’re curious as to what all the hype is about.
However, vaping is a different experience from smoking. They’re similar but in no way the same.
Whether you’re new to the vaping scene or just want to know a little more about your vape pen, we have you covered. So pull out your pen and sit back while we show you how to vape the right way.
Know Your Vape Pen
Before you start toking up, be aware of what kind of pen you’re using. Although vaping is safer than smoking, you’ll still encounter some difficulty and hazards if you do it wrong or get a pen not fit for you.
The reason for this is because each pen works differently and thus has different steps with usage. So how do you know what type of pen you’re using?
Cartridge Pens
These types of pens are standard and usually most suited for people just getting into vaping. The more affordable choice for vapers has prefilled or fillable cartridges. You’ll find these made from different materials that range from plastic to glass.
Concentrate Pens
Concentrate pens allow you to vape upon only extracts/wax which you can place in your tank. This is why people also refer to them as wax vaporizers. They heat up the concentrated liquid into vapor and this makes it easier to use compared to smoking from a pipe pen.
Herb Vaporizers
This type of pen vaporizes dry flowers and has a larger build than the other two e-cigs. Because of this, these kinds of vaporizers tend to be pricier.
You’ll need to learn how to use that specific pen type appropriately, depending on what kind of e-cig pen you have.
Using Your Pen
The next step is to learn the ins and outs of your new e-cig pen. Here are the steps you need to know and it all starts with reading the manual.
Check out Your Manual
Products come with manuals for a reason and your e-cig pen is no exception. If you recently bought you pen for vaping, chances are the manual is still in the box.
Look for special instructions or warnings. These can tell you about any health hazards or effects to look out for.
Charge It
Once you’ve finished reading your manual, you should understand the different parts of your vaping pen. However, in the event you don’t have it on you, you should know that a rechargeable battery powers your pen. In order for your pen to work, you’ll have to charge it using the adapter provided with the vape pen.
Dry Run
Some people choose to run their vaping pens without any juice or extracts to try burning off any debris and gunk left from manufacturing. While it doesn’t totally remove the risk, it may help reduce what you don’t want to inhale. You can do this by turning on your vape pen for around 30 to 90 seconds.
Load Tank
Once you’ve got all this done, load your tank with what you want to vaporize. Since you’ve gotten to know the types of pens in the previous chapter, you know what kind of materials you can put into your chamber.
Unscrew your chamber off your vaping pen, place what you want to vaporize, and screw it back on. Refrain from placing anything in the chamber that your pen isn’t supposed to vaporize because this might lessen your pen’s lifespan or even break it.
Take Your Puffs
We’ve reached the part you’ve all been waiting for, grab your pen, turn it on and start puffing up. Certain pens have different ways of turning on, so you should check if your pen is automatic or button-activated before starting. Place your mouth on the mouthpiece and start breathing in and hold for a couple of seconds before exhaling.
Now that you know how to use your pen, you can puff one up whenever you want. However, you’re left with the gunk that wasn’t vaporized. How do you deal with the issue of cleaning your pen after you use it?
Maintaining Your Pen
Now that you’re done using your vape pen, you’ll have to clean all that leftover residue. You may be wondering why you have to clean your vaping pen even if it’s just dry herb.
Cleaning Your Vape Pen
First, you need to detach the mouthpiece, remove the heating chamber from your vaping pen and empty out any material left in the chamber. You need to clean the heating chamber/coil and screen depending what kind of vape pen you have.
Avoid getting liquid in the compact wirings inside your vape or in the chamber near the wick when cleaning your pen because it may break the complex components of your pen.
For cartridge pens, the heating chamber can be carefully cleaned with a dab tool or cotton bud lightly dipped in rubbing alcohol. If you have a concentrate pen, take a cotton swab with a little bit of alcohol and carefully clean off wax from the coil.
For herb vaporizers, clean the screen and heating chamber with a brush.
After you’ve removed all the unnecessary gunk, you can clean the detached mouthpiece with water or alcohol. Finally, reassemble the pieces back together and gently wipe the outside of your pen with a clean cloth.
